(5199) Dortmund

( 5199 ) Dortmund is a main belt asteroid of the middle, which was discovered by Soviet astronomer Lyudmila Georgievna Karatschkina on 7 September 1981 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj (IAU code 095). Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid it had (1951 OD) already given on July 9, 1934 (1934 NO) and on 26 July 1951 at Union Observatory in Johannesburg.

( 5199 ) Dortmund is part of the Eunomia family, one named after (15 ) Eunomia group of probably five percent of the asteroids of the main belt are.

In observations of the asteroid at the Goodsell Observatory, Northfield, Minnesota, 2003, the diameter of the asteroid was estimated to be about 15 kilometers. However, this diameter is not officially confirmed as the albedo is not known.

( 5199 ) Dortmund was named on 1 September 1993 after the city of Dortmund, which since 1978 has been twinned with Rostov-on- Don. In the name of submission Dortmund was incorrectly referred to as the capital of North Rhine- Westphalia.
