( 5748 ) Dave Brin is a main belt asteroid of the mean, the American astronomer from the Eleanor Helin at Palomar Observatory (IAU code 675) was discovered in California on February 19, 1991. Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid had already on 26 April 1952 ( 1952 HE3 ) at the McDonald Observatory in Texas, as well as on 15 March 1983 (1983 EL4 ) at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj as well as on 25 and 26 September 1989 ( 1989 SK9 ) where the Chilean La Silla Observatory.

( 5748 ) Dave Brin is part of the Eunomia family, one named after (15 ) Eunomia group of probably five percent of the asteroids of the main belt are. The timeless ( nichtoskulierenden ) orbital elements of ( 5748 ) Dave Brin are almost identical to those of the two smaller, if we start from the absolute brightness of 16.4 and 16.0 compared with 13.5, asteroids ( 132 432 ) in 2002 and GG160 ( 150 975 ) 2001 TV196.

( 5748 ) Dave Brin was named after the American science fiction author and astrophysicist David Brin on 26 February 1994.
