(5801) Vasarely

( 5801 ) Vasarely is an asteroid of the inner main belt, which on 16 October 1982 by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos on Kleť Observatory (IAU code 046) was discovered in Český Krumlov. Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid had 1979 (1979 VE2 ) where already on 1 January 1973 (1973 AF2 ) and 14 November at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj.

The asteroid is named after the French-Hungarian painter and graphic artist Victor Vasarely. Vasarely is one of the founders of the artistic direction of Op Art. The appointment was made on a proposal from the Czech astronomer Jana Ticha by the International Astronomical Union ( IAU) on 11 November 2000.
