( 8031 ), William Dana is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on March 7, 1992 by the Japanese astronomer Seiji Ueda and Hiroshi Kaneda at Kushiro Observatory (IAU code 399 ).

The celestial body is according to the U.S. test pilot William H. Dana ( born 1930 ) named, who completed 16 flights in the X-15 program and was awarded a NASA pilot only on 24 August 2005 his astronaut wings.
