A House of Pomegranates

A pomegranate House ( A House of Pomegranates ) is a published in 1891 collection of literary fairy tales of ethnic Irish writer Oscar Wilde. It is his second collection of fairy tales by The Happy Prince and Other Fairy Tales ( 1888). The first edition appeared in London publishing Osgood McIlvaine and contained illustrations by Charles Ricketts and Charles Shannon.

The stories are about love, youthful beauty, compassion and suffering.

Content

  • The young king ( The Young King) is a socially critical fairy tale in which the young king, who grew up among the shepherds, his wealth is tired and is stylized in the end to a Christ the same figure.
  • The Birthday of the Infanta ( The Birthday of the Infanta ) tells of a dwarf who is made a king's daughter as a gift and dies, as he understands that he is not loved, but just a fun pastime.
  • The fisherman and his soul ( The Fisherman and his Soul ) is about the beauty as temptation and attacks alike and Teufelspakt motifs: The fisherman gets rid of his soul, to live under the water with his beloved mermaid.
  • The Star-Child (The Star -Child ) is the story of a beautiful but cruel foundling, though it be tried in slavery and is finally crowned king.
