Reviews

" Exuberant, but little brilliant grotesque. Obsolete. "

" The first Marx Brothers film with a continuous action, which, however, conventional and satirical and exaggerated is insignificant. Highlights set the puns and actions often brilliant comedians. "

" Circus jokes and opera hero. A mostly silly comedy with a number of amusing clowning. "

Background

The film contains some classic scenes of the Marx Brothers:

  • The negotiation between Groucho and Chico to the contract with Lassparri, where they reduce the contract more and more to only a narrow strip is left. They are, as in a bar, with one foot on the KO lying on the ground Lassparri rests.
  • Driftwood moves into his tiny cabin and finds the three stowaways. First, he ordered food for all three and gradually come two maids, manicures, the ship plumber and the Heizingenieur, the cleaning lady, a girl who seeks his aunt, and the three stewards who bring the food into the cabin. Thus, fourteen persons including the giant suitcase in the room. At the end of Harpo located on the trays of the stewards. When Mrs. Claypool with the bellboy comes and opens the door, they fall against the persons in the cabin.
  • " Speech " by Harpo on the harbor, where he only drinks several liters of water.
  • The visit of the sheriff in Driftwood, who seeks the stowaways. While he is always running in circles around the living room, the balcony and the bedroom, the furniture vacate the four on the run from him from the living room to the bedroom and vice versa.
