Aasee (Bocholt)

The Aa is an artificial lake in the area of Bocholt with 32 acres of water. The entire site has an area of 74 hectares, the lake is located in the district of Borken in North Rhine -Westphalia and is a recreational area of the city. On the lake, sailing and surfing is possible, it houses a walk over a bridge small and a second, much smaller and undeveloped island. There is a monitored from the DLRG pool with sand beach and beach cafe Ottilie on the northeastern shore. On the west bank, a range of model boats is released.

The lake is known for a June annual triathlon event, while the meadows are used around the lake for many other events.

The Aa was created by dredging in the 1970s and finally completed in 1983. Prior to the extensive grounds was a flood plain. The lake is fed by the little stream Pleystrang. The Bocholt Aa was south of the lake out around him in order to compensate for the water level of Lake Aa can. The question of power always leads to confusion as to separate the two rivers just before the Aa and reunite shortly after the Aa. Both the inflow and the outflow are regulated by locks. It has created a small nature reserve with artificial nest boxes, by far the greater part of the lake is the relaxation-seeking population and several water sports associations.

Just off one of the locks are the remains of the "King Mill", the walls date from the late Middle Ages. This Palatinate was founded, however, in the days of Charlemagne.

Only separated by a road from Lake Aa is the Bocholt Textile Museum, whose buildings are modeled on a weaving mill from the 19th century.
