Abbeyfeale

Abbeyfeale ( Irish: Mainistir na Féile, dt: " Abbey at Feale " ) is a city in County Limerick in the southwest of Ireland.

The place

Abbeyfeale is situated on the banks of the River Feale, on the border with County Kerry in 127 m altitude in the foothills of the Mountains Mullaghareirk a market town with 2,544 inhabitants ( 2011) in the far west of the county of Limerick.

In today dominated by a statue marketplace of the town was formerly the 1188 -founded Abbeyfeale Abbey, of which, however, only some remains are preserved in the masonry of the 1847 built Catholic Church today. The mentioned statue shows Father William Casey, the priest at the local Parish from 1883 to 1907, who supported the tenant farmers in their struggle against the landlords.

A current City Development Plan for Abbeyfeale has already brought the construction of the first new road in place since 1880.

In Abbeyfeale, among others, is a subsidiary of the German Kostal Group.

Abbeyfeale is between Newcastle West and Castle Iceland on the national road N21, which runs from Limerick City Coming to County Kerry. With Listowel in Kerry Abbeyfeale is connected by a regional road, Newcastle West direction approximately 20 mi from Abbeyfeale and Listowel in north-east north-west.
