Abdou Sidikou

Abdou Sidikou (* 1927 in Kouré; † 26 July 1973) was a Nigerien politician and diplomat. He was Foreign Minister of Niger from 1967 to 1970.

Life

Abdou Sidikou attended the regional school in Niamey, where he became a student of the later Nigerien President Hamani Diori was 1936. He continued his education at the École normale supérieure William Ponty in Dakar. He then studied at the medical faculties of Dakar and Paris, where he graduated in 1956. From 1956 to 1957 he completed an internship at the Hôpitaux de la Seine, specializing in serology, biology and bacteriology. Sidikou 1957 returned back to Niger, where he served as chief pharmacist at the National Hospital of Niamey until 1959. He was also chief of his hometown Canton Kouré.

Under Prime Minister Hamani Diori was Abdou Sidikou 1959 Cabinet Director of Health Minister Boubacar Diallo Ali. In independent Niger occurred in 1962 - as the successor of Issoufou Saïdou Djermakoye - his appointment as Ambassador to the United States, the United Nations and Canada. In September, he became ambassador to Belgium. He was also accredited to the Federal Republic of Germany, Austria and the European Economic Community as an ambassador. Sidikou returned in November 1965 returned to his home country to work as Secretary-General of the Foreign Ministry, headed by President Hamani Diori itself. He also served as a state inspector for the pharmacy sector. On April 14, 1967 Abdou Sidikou was promoted to Secretary of State. Health problems meant that he was deposed as Secretary of State in January 1970 and appointed instead assigned to one of the President's Office Secretary of State. His successor as foreign minister was Barcourgné Courmo.
