Abersoch

Abersoch is a large village in the County of Gwynedd ( North West Wales ), formerly Caernarfonshire County.

General

Abersoch is situated on the southeast coast of the Lleyn Peninsula ( Welsh: Penrhyn Llŷn ) in the Irish Sea. The town is located 11 km southwest of Pwllheli and 43 km southwest of the town of Caernarfon, the seat of county government. The name derives from the River Afon Soch, which flows into the sea.

The community has a primary school for 3-8 year old children, continuing education schools in the neighboring towns, especially in Pwllheli to find.

Tourism

Originally Abersoch a fishing village, now it is known for its beach and the associated water sports such as sailing and windsurfing. Especially wind and waves at Porth Neigwl or Hell's Mouth attract extreme surfers. Within the past 60 years has been the site of a major sailing centers of Britain. By the associated immigration but the Welsh character of the locality and the use of the original common Welsh language has been severely restricted.

In the center of the village a lively shopping and entertainment district is created. Boat trips around the St. Tudwal 's Islands off the coast offered where seals and sea birds can be observed. Mount Snowdon in the nearby Snowdonia National Park can be clearly seen on clear days. A golf course, a caravan park, several hotels, bars and restauarants complete the offer.
