Abtsdorfer See

The Abtsdorfer lake, also called Haarsee, is a lake in Upper Bavaria near Running ( Salzach).

Description

The resulting after the melting of the Salzach glacier at the end of the Würm glacial lake is considered one of the warmest lakes in Bavaria. The water temperature varied between 17 ° C in May 2011 and over 26 ° C in July and August. Its dark color is caused not by the bog water but by the humousäurehaltigen inflows from the nearby hair moss. The hair moss itself was originally a shallow lake and was named Hui- or Haarsee, of which probably the second in the area completely uncommon name of the lake originates Abtsdorfer. The Haarsee 1772-1774 was drained in order to gain arable land. For this, the only outlet of the lake, the Schinderbach river, on Andordnung by Archbishop Hieronymus Colloredo two fathoms (about 1.75 m in Bavaria) was deepened. In 1900 it was proposed again lower the Abtsee by 80 to 100 cm, but it rejected the Laufener citizens.

The lake is elongated, densely forested island castle stables. The island is located at a point a few meters away from the lakeshore. There stood a castle, of which is above ground, nothing more to see today in the Middle Ages. The lords, the lords of Kuchel were considered robber barons, and had in the 14th century in the nearby village of Leoben larger possessions. While the clashes between the Archbishopric of Salzburg and the Duchy of Bavaria you tried to put the castle in 1355 under water. Here are a few dams were heaped up, which led to the enlargement of the lake and were only reopened in 1558. In Philipp Apian land panel 19 of 1568 Abbtsee is located with an island on which stands a church and on the north-west of a bridge or a bridge.

The lake is one of the richest fishing waters in Bavaria. A local specialty is up to 50 cm long, so-called bog carp whose stocks are annually fished on the first weekend of November in the southern part of the lake by lowering the water level ( "harvested" ) and auctioned as part of a much visited autumn festival with a lot of folksy traditions.

The lake belongs to the island castle barn for community hall village in the district Surheim Berchtesgaden. The northern shore forms the border with the city running in the district of Berchtesgaden. Of the residents in the vicinity of the lake is only briefly referred to as Abtsee, after the eponymous district of the city running on the north bank.

At the lake there are a camping, a clinic, and a recreational area. Around the lake there is a walking path.
