Abushiri ibn Salim al-Harthi

Buschiri bin Salim, probably correctly Abushiri ibn Salim al - Harthi († December 15, 1889 [ put to death ] ), was one of the ringleaders of the revolt of the coastal population of the Zanzibar mainland strip ( in present-day Tanzania ) against the takeover by the German East Africa Company in, 1888.

Buschiri was plantation owners near the ancient port town of Pangani ( the Indian Ocean between Dar es Salaam and Tanga ). He was included in the group of the coast Arabs; his father was an Arab Omani descent and the African mother.

The German colonial propaganda has later often referred to him as " slave traders ". This has no basis in the contemporary reports about the colonial lexicon or Wissmann's report to the German government.

In August 1888, Buschiri involved in the uprising, which broke out in Pangani against the German East Africa Company. He quickly became the leader of the movement in the northern coastal strip between the British territory and Dar es Salaam. The movement was initially successful and eventually led to the collapse of the rule of the colonial society. Thus, the German government was prompted to intervene. The use of German government forces, including a cruiser squadron under Rear Admiral Deinhardplatz on the frigate cruiser SMS Leipzig, was then successively the defeat of the uprising resulted.

After Buschiri was already militarily beaten, jailed on the way to Mombasa from African opponents and handed over to the German military, it a short process was filed with a court-martial, and he was hanged in public on 15 December 1889.
