Accentus (choir)

The Choeur de chambre Accentus is a French professional chamber choir, which was founded in 1991 by Laurence Equilbey. Repertoire focuses on the performance of a cappella choral works, especially of contemporary vocal music.

History

The choir was founded in 1991 by Laurence Equilbey, who had studied choir at the conservatories of Paris and Vienna, and at Nikolaus Harnoncourt and the Arnold Schoenberg. Their main conducting teacher was the Swedish choral conductor Eric Ericson.

The choir designed numerous world premieres of contemporary choral works as Granum Sinapis (1998) and Dona eis (1999) by Pascal Dusapin, as well as the French premiere of Outis by Luciano Berio (1999). The choir is also working together with orchestras such as the Ensemble Intercontemporain or the Orchestre de Paris under the direction of, inter alia, by Pierre Boulez, Jonathan Nott and Christoph Eschenbach. He is among other things also on opera productions the Opéra de Rouen and Paris Opera involved. Since 1993, the Fondation France Telecom is an integral sponsor of the choir.
