Acheron River (Marlborough)

The Acheron River is located in the Marlborough region on the South Island of New Zealand.

It originates in the area of ​​Shingle Peak. The river flows southwest and then to the southeast and is about 60 km long. In its middle reaches it follows the course of the Rachel Range. The only place in the vicinity of the course is on the Molesworth but not flowing in the Awatere River Acheron.

Rights tributaries are the Saxton River, the Alma River and the Yarra River; the Guide River is a left tributary.

The Acheron opens at the south end of the Kaikoura Ranges in the border regions of Marlborough and Canterbury northeast of Hanmer Springs in the Clarence River.
