History

Development phase (1985-1987)

Acid Reign was led by Mark Ramsey Wharton (drums, keyboards), Ian Gangwer ( electric bass), Howard "H" Smith ( vocals), and Gary " Gaz " Jennings ( guitar, later became a member of Cathedral). Kevin Papworth came in 1987 as a second guitarist for the band.

Rise and separation (1987-1991)

In 1987 the band released their first demo called Moshkinstein. Impressed by this demonstration the British thrash metal label Under One Flag adopted ( sub label from Music for Nations ), the band under contract. In 1988 they released the EP Moshkinstein. According to this publication Jennings guitarist left the band and was (before later at Lord Crucifier even at Cathedral ) was replaced by Adam Lehan. Following which they played as the opening act for bands like Flotsam and Jetsam and Death Angel. Acid Reign also developed friendships with other bands of the label like Nuclear Assault and Exodus and went with them through Europe on tour.

The band released their debut album The Fear in 1989. To promote the new album the band went back on tour with Nuclear Assault Europe, together with the bands Dark Angel and Candlemass. Meanwhile replaced bassist Ian "Mac" MacDonald previous bassist Gangwer. The second album was released in 1990 Obnoxious.

The band broke up in 1991 again, after she had separated from Music for Nations. They played their last concert at London's Marquee Club.

After separation (1991 -present)

After the band had separated, Papworth joined the band Lawnmower Deth. Wharton played at Cathedral and joined the band Cronos. Smith starred in the comedy program " Keith Platt - Professional Yorkshireman " with.

Acid Reign published remastered reissues of their albums and EPs on 17 January 2011 Lost & Found Records. Mastered it was used by producer Bill Metoyer ( Slayer, DRI, Flotsam and Jetsam ) in the Skull Seven Studios.

In September / October 2010 Smith collaborated with the Italian thrash metal band Satanika. Smith took over doing the vocals on one of their songs.

Style

In their texts they processed various topics such as censorship (for example in the song " Creative Restraint " ) or the rejection of nuclear testing ( " Joke Chain "). Also topics from science-fiction ( " Phantasm " ) were used. Also the songs are characterized by a certain kind of humor, examples of this are songs "This Is Serious " (Bonus song of the album " Obnoxious "). They play a technically demanding form of Thrash Metal. Characteristic of the band is also the high velocity of the pieces.
