Candlemass is a Swedish Epic Doom band that was founded in the mid 1980s by Leif Edling.

History

1980

Leif Edling founded Candlemass after the dissolution of his previous band Nemesis. The original line-up consisted of Edling ( bass), Matz Ekstrom (drums), Mats Björkman folder (guitar) and Johan Langquist (vocals ). Their debut album Epicus Doomicus Metallicus was published in 1986 and immediately became a landmark work in the fledgling Doom Metal scene. 1990

Thomas Vikström became the new singer of the band and with Chapter VI (1992 ) published a new album. 2000

In 2002 the band reunited and played a few concerts, the very well-received by the fans; the relocation of several appearances at the Wacken Open Air in 2002, were not sufficiently informed about the bands and visitors by the organizers, but made ​​sure that many fans missed the appearance of Candlemass and performed the band in front of a thrash and black metal audience; However, the spectators present took the band on good.

On 2 June 2012, the band released on its website announced the departure of Robert Lowe, who is to be represented at the upcoming concerts by Mats Levén.
