Adalgisa Magno Guterres

Adaljíza Albertina Xavier rice Magno ( born January 7, 1975 in Baguia ) is an East Timorese politician. She is a member of FRETILIN and was in the transitional government of Prime Minister Estanislau da Silva 2007, the Executive Secretary of East Timor.

About the person

Adaljiza Magno was the daughter of Ana Xavier G. Magno and Alberto dos Reis Magno. Since October 2003 Adaljiza Magno is married to Rosa Tino Amado Hei dos Anjos. They have a daughter, Rosejiza Nabilan Magno Hei.

Magno has published several articles on the subject law, women and the economy. She is fluent in Makasae, Tetum, Portuguese, Bahasa Indonesia and English.

Life

Eleven months after the birth Magnos Indonesia began with the occupation of East Timor. Magnos family fled to the mountain Mate Bian, a center of FRETILIN resistance against the invaders. The family lived four years on the run before she returned in 1979 after Baguia. In 1980 she returned to the Indonesian army, as they threatened to starve.

Magno attended from 1982 to 1987 the primary school from 1987 to 1990, the pre- secondary school from 1990 to 1993, the secondary school in Dili. At the National Sebelas Maret University in Surakarta / Indonesia, she graduated with a degree in Economics.

Prior to her election in 2001 in the Constituent Assembly, which later became the National Parliament was, Magno was a woman activist since her studies in Indonesia in the student movement active, who worked for the independence of East Timor. From 1993 to 1998 she was a member of the Organization of the Catholic students of the Republic of Indonesia PMKRI in Surakarta and graduated in 1998 in Jakarta, the SAHE study club at. At the same time she founded with friends a communication forum for East Timorese women ( FORELSAN ) in Yogyakarta.

For the referendum on East Timor's independence from Indonesia in 1999 Magno returned to their homeland. Following the announcement of the result, arguing for the independence, there were massive attacks by pro-Indonesian militias on the population. Magno and her family fled, like many other inhabitants to Kupang in West Timor. As well as here militias attacked the refugees, the family fled to Bali further and returned only after the arrival of the international intervention force INTERFET in October 1999 return to East Timor.

Magno, 1999 was a co-founder of the Institute for Sahe Liberation SIL, a non-governmental organization, which campaigns for education for the population, and until 2001 worked for SIL. From November 1999 to June 2000 Magno also worked for the human rights movement HAK coordinator for issues of public education and for the communication forum for East Timorese women FOKUPERS.

2000 represented the union confederation Magno East Timor at the 88th Conference of the International Labour Organization in Geneva. In the same year, she participated in a speakers tour of the NGO East Timor and Indonesia Action Network that took them through 22 states across the United States. In addition, Magno taught at the National University of Timor- Leste ( UNTL ) on human rights.

Magno was appointed a member of the organizing committee for the construction of the East Timor Women's Network 2001. For the UNFPA she was from June to August, 2001 Contact person for the issue of "domestic violence " in East Timor.

Political career

In 2003, Magno for FRETILIN in an exchange program with the People's Republic of China in part, which had its priorities in politics, culture, economy and history.

From 2001 to 2007 was Adaljiza Magno member of the National Parliament of East Timor and their then 26 years, the youngest member. In addition, Magno was appointed secretary of the Parlamentsauschusses of Economy and Finance.

From July 2005 to 2007 Magno was the Deputy Foreign Minister in the governments Alkatiri and Ramos- Horta. Here she was the youngest member of the government. Following the resignation of Ramos- Horta, Magno da Silva was appointed on 19 May 2007 the Executive Secretary of the transitional government of his successor Estanislau who remained in office until the beginning of the new government after the parliamentary elections of June 30, 2007 August 8. In the elections Magno was only ranked 60 FRETILIN and had practically no chance to get one of the 65 seats in the new parliament.

2002-2006 Magno was active again for HAK and 2004-2007 for FOKUPERS. Further held 2007 civil organizations on the third Osttimorspendertreffen in Canberra.
