Adam Ingram (Labour politician)

The Right Honourable Adam Ingram Paterson ( born 1 February 1947 in Glasgow ) was from 2001 to 2007 Parliamentary State Secretary to the Minister of Defence of the United Kingdom.

Life

He attended the Senior Secondary School Cranhill in a residential neighborhood in the north of Glasgow. He was a grade under Archy Kirkwood, Baron Kirkwood of Kirkhope, a member of the Privy Council. He is a graduate of The Open University. From 1967 to 1977 he worked as a programmer. In 1970 he married Maureen McMahon. From 1977 to 1987 he was Secretary of the National and Local Government Officers Association a union for government employees. From 1980 to 1987 he was an honorary magistrate and sat in front of the Labour Party in the constituency of East Kilbride. From 1980 to 1987 he was district and from 1984 to 1987 Head of the District Council.

In 1983 he ran for the lower house in the constituency of Strathkelvin and Bearsden. In the British general election, 1987, he ran for Labour and was elected. After Labour's election victory in 1997 he was appointed by Tony Blair for Secretary of State at the Northern Ireland Office. He was the longest serving parliamentary State Secretary to the Minister of Defence in British history. He belongs to the British Privy Council.

Since the election of 1987, he sat for the constituency of East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow in the European Parliament.

March 27, 2009 Ingram stated that he can not be at the British general election 3 June 2010 up to the election.

End of April 2004 Ingram complained against George Galloway and the publisher Penguin Books for libel in the autobiography I'm Not The Only One, of Galloway. At trial, the action, the attorneys at Ingram had to admit that in the band Ingram of the Orange Order: a year in the early 1960s and was a member " kick the pope ", attended three parades and played flute, as the Court of ruled that Ingram had to bear the costs.

According to research by The Sunday Times and Channel 4 Ingram had, as well as the former Parliamentary State Secretary to the Minister for Sport, Richard Caborn offered political influence against payment.
