Adam Liszt

Adam Liszt ( list) ( born December 16, 1776 in Nemesvölgy, Kingdom of Hungary ( today Edelstal, Burgenland, Austria ); † August 28, 1827 ) was a Hungarian officer, musician and father of the composer and pianist Franz Liszt. He was born in the second child of the couple Juraj ( György ) List and Barbara Slezák. They lived in Marcz (today Marz, Austria ) and in Malacka (now Malacky, Slovakia).

Life

As a teenager, Adam piano and cello played in the Esterházy summer orchestra under the direction of Joseph Haydn. After attending Catholic school in Pressburg Adam, the wishes of his mother came accordingly, in September 1795 in Malacka in a Franciscan monastery as a novice one. Because of its fickle and changeable nature, he was dismissed from the monastery on 29 July 1797 and enrolled at the beginning of the winter semester 1797/98 at the University of Bratislava as a student of philosophy. Since he lacked funds, he abandoned his studies and joined to January 1, 1798 employment at the Esterházy princes and became an employee of the farm in Forchtenau (now Forchtenstein ).

Adam Liszt sought a transfer to Eisenstadt and stated in his petition that he was prepared to do: to play in the music organ, violin and in an emergency cello, singing in the church choir bass and beat in the orchestra the drum, too. About his musical abilities Lord would give his oral testimony v. Haydn. 1805 Adam Liszt was moved to Eisenstadt, where he worked at the court. Occasionally, he also played as the second cellist in the orchestra, which was then headed by Johann Nepomuk Hummel. He also played under Cherubini and Beethoven, who on September 13, 1807 conducted the first performance of the Mass in C major here.

In his house in Raiding Adam Liszt often held chamber concerts and soon recognized the musical talent of his son and gave him his first lessons. In October 1820, his son came the age of nine with the performance of a piano concerto in E flat major by Ferdinand Ries and its own improvisation for the first time in a concert at Baron von Braun in Sopron publicly.

Educator of Franz Liszt

Adam Liszt, who recognized the extraordinary talent of his son more and more, now did everything, " to shape " his son and was - similar to Leopold Mozart - a stern music educator. He cared for his son's education in Vienna and was followed in December 1823 with his wife and son settled in Paris.
