Adolf von Donndorf

Adolf Donndorf, from 1910 by Donndorf, ( born February 16, 1835 in Weimar, † December 20, 1916 in Stuttgart ) was a German sculptor.

Life

Donndorf was from 1853 to 1861 worked as a student of Ernst Rietschel in his studio in Dresden and led after his death, together with Gustav Adolph Kietz the Luther monument to Worms to an end. His talent as a sculptor was recognized with his appointment as honorary member of the Dresden Art Academy already on 12 November 1864. In 1876 he was appointed as a professor of sculpture at the Art Academy in Stuttgart.

Adolf von Donndorf was an honorary citizen of Weimar, Stuttgart, was knighted in 1910 and was allowed to wear the title of nobility of. Also in 1910, the city of Weimar taught him to honor a one Donndorf Museum.

His sons were Charles Donndorf ( German sculptor, 1870-1941 ) and Martin Donndorf ( 1865-1937, Weimar mayor from 1910 to 1920 )
