Adolphe Cohn

Adolphe Cohn (* May 29, 1851 in Paris, † February 13, 1930 in Paris) was an American linguist and literary scholar of French origin.

Life and work

Cohn studied at the École Nationale des Chartes and graduated in 1874 from. Then he went to New York City and was from 1876 to 1884 America correspondent edited by Léon Gambetta newspaper La République française, then until 1895 the newspaper Le Temps (France). In addition, he began in 1882 a career as a university teacher of French, first as a tutor at Columbia University, in 1884 as Instructor ( 1885-1891 Assistant Professor ) at Harvard University, and finally from 1891 to 1917 as a professor of Romance Philology and colleague of Henry Alfred Todd at Columbia University.

Cohn was an officer of the Legion of Honour.
