Adrien Anneet

Adrien Anneet (* November 15, 1908 in Brussels, † unknown) was a Belgian boxer. He was European champion in the professional boxers in the welterweight division.

Career

Adrien Anneet participated without much success at the Summer Olympic Games in 1928. After that he had in the same year his debut as a professional boxer. His first fight he lost on September 16, 1928 in Wandre against his compatriot Verdieres. But he nevertheless developed quickly becoming one of the best Belgian welterweight boxer, and went on 2 April 1930 in Brussels against Gustave Roth over the full fight for ten rounds and was defeated only on points. 1931 denied Anneet three outstanding battles: First, he was defeated on February 15, 1931 the French master Edouard Tenet over ten rounds on points. In the rematch then succeeded him on 22 April 1931 in Brussels a points victory. On 16 December 1931, he also defeated the Dutch masters Huib Huizenaar on points.

On October 26, 1932 Adrien Anneet fought in the Palais des Sports in Brussels against Gustave Roth at the European Championship welterweight and won by disqualification of Roth in the sixth round. On January 4, 1933, he managed to defend that title in Brussels against the Italians Vittorio Venturi by one point victory after 15 rounds. On May 22, 1933 in Birmingham but Anneet lost his European title by a disqualification defeat in the third round against the Englishman Jack Hood.

On November 8, 1933 and on February 10, 1934 Adrien Anneet failed in his attempt to become a Belgian welterweight champion. He lost both times against Nestor Charlier after 15 rounds fight time on points. On 1 December 1933 he fought for the first time in Germany, and had one point defeat by Gustav Eder in Berlin plug.

In 1935, Adrien Anneet get three notable victories. He proposed on January 16, 1935 in Brussels Cologne Hein Domgörgen for points scored in his next fight on March 2, 1935 a points victory over Karel Sys and proposed on December 9, 1935 and the German Jupp Besselmann on points. Against the Greek former European welterweight champion Anton Christoforidis he had, however, on March 6, 1936 in Paris one point defeat suffered.

On September 29, 1937, succeeded Adrien Anneet to be Belgian champion at middleweight. He defeated on this day Al Baker about 15 rounds on points, which he had to return on April 2, 1940, a point defeat again the title. In the years 1940 and 1941, he also fought three times against Felix Wouters, the then Belgian best middleweights. All three fights he lost it after ten rounds on points.

By the end of his career Adrien Anneet tried twice more to take back the Belgian league title by Al Baker. He failed both times there, though, because he lost on points, respectively. His last fight Anneet denied on February 18, 1946 in Rotterdam against Dutchman Luc van Dam. He had it a technical knockout loss in the sixth round to accept and finished after his career as a professional boxer.
