Adyar, Chennai

Adyar (Tamil: அடையாறு Aṭaiyāṟu [ aɖɛi̯ja ː r ( ɯ )], also Adayar, Adaiyar ) is suburb of Chennai (Madras ), the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located in the south of Chennai, on the south side of the river Adyar. Adyar is one of 15 zones ( zones ) of Chennai and comprises 13 districts ( wards ).

The actual district of Adyar covers only a part of the zone of the same name. Its boundaries are not clearly defined, the district can, however, clearly argue against Beasant Nagar in the east, Tiruvanmiyur in the south, Guindy and Mylapore in the west to the north delimit. the border to Guindy is the Buckingham Canal, the Mylapore to the Adyar River. The zone includes, in addition Adyar Adyar in the narrower sense also Beasant Nagar, Tiruvanmiyur, Guindy and other areas such as Velachery or Saidapet.

Early known Adyar was the Theosophical Society ( Adyar later -TG), which in 1882 moved its headquarters here and theosophical lodges and centers established all over the world. The headquarters of the Theosophical Society is in the midst of 109 acres of gardens on the banks of the Adyar River.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, many homes were built in Adyar, which whole neighborhoods emerged. Since 1959 there is a university and in the late 1990s, many companies moved from the IT industry here. Even the world's largest Leather Research Institute, the " Central Leather Research Institute " based in Adaiyar.

Theosophical Society Adyar

The Theosophical Society Adyar is a theosophical organization which grew out of the New York-based Theosophical Society in 1875 (TG ). The headquarters is located in Adyar. Today, it is by far the largest TG and active in more than 60 countries around the world, including in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In addition to its classical action spectrum in the range esotericism and religion they practiced in the course of its history of great influence on society, politics, art and science. Born in Adyar Radha Burnier was president of the Theosophical Society Adyar.
