Valasaravakkam

Valasaravakkam (Tamil: வளசரவாக்கம் Vaḷacaravākkam [ ʋaɭəsaɾəʋa ː k ː ʌm ] ) is a district of Chennai (Madras ), the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Valasaravakkam is one of 15 zones ( zones ) of Chennai and comprises 13 districts ( wards ).

Valasaravakkam is around ten kilometers from the city center on the western outskirts of Chennai. Until the 1980s, Valasaravakkam was a rural village, by the expansion of Chennai and the construction of new residential areas of the district but is now heavily urbanized. By 2011, Valasaravakkam was a separate town (municipality ) in the district of Tiruvallur with an area of 8.0 square kilometers and 30 265 inhabitants ( 2001 census). The place was, however, long since grown together with Chennai and become a part of the agglomeration of Chennai. Due to the expansion of the city of Chennai, Valasaravakkam was administratively incorporated in Chennai. The former municipality Valasaravakkam, together with the also incorporated towns Maduravoyal, Nerkundram, Nolampur, Ramapuram, Porur and Karampakkam the zone Valasaravakkam.
