Aenima

Aenima is a Portuguese band from Almada. Their musical style is inspired by early Ethereal bands like Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance or Faith and the Muse. Another typical feature is the melancholic and dreamy mood of the music, which is influenced by the shoegazing movement. The band name is derived from anima, the Latin word for 'soul'.

History

Aenima was founded in 1997 by guitarist Rune (formerly Millennium ) and singer Carmen Simões (formerly Poetry of Shadows and Isiphilon ) founded shortly after both had left their previous bands. Their debut album, Revolution, they still took no more band members on Runes in their own recording studio. It was released in 1999 with the Portuguese independent label symbiosis with which the band completed a comprehensive two albums recording contract. The label presented but soon any promotional and limited exclusively to the sale of the album. Without the necessary sales promotion and sales remained very low.

After several appearances on Portuguese Dark Wave Festival with now a permanent occupation, the band got the opportunity in 2000 on the German Mera Luna Festival act, which made known the first time abroad. Then the recordings for the six titles comprehensive EP Never Fragile took place from January to June 2001 the transitional appeared in January 2002 with the Portuguese label Equilibrium Music and received good to very good reviews.

The recorded in September 2001 Sentient second album was released in May 2003 by the U.S. label Middle Pillar Presents. For the release of the album the band Marinha organized in the planetarium of the Museu da in Lisbon an exclusive multimedia show. The following year, the limited edition picture disc Puppet Circus appeared. At the same time singer Carmen left the band and shortly thereafter founded together with Norwegian musician Rune Eriksen the Doom metal band Ava Inferi. Since 2005, the band performs with the new singer Susana. Since 2007, the band, apart from a few live performances, inactive.
