Aero Trasporti Italiani

Aero Trasporti Italiani, short ATI, was an Italian regional airline with seat and base in Naples and a subsidiary of Alitalia.

History

Founding and first years

End of 1963, Alitalia founded the subsidiary ATI, which should operate from their headquarters in Naples particularly domestic routes in southern Italy. The share capital of the company came to 90% of the Alitalia and 10% of the state holding company IRI, which in turn also held the majority of the Alitalia shares. ATI started operations on June 2, 1964, two aircraft of type Fokker F-27, of which up to 1969 a total of thirteen were used. In 1969 came the first four Douglas DC-9 fleet.

First, the company flew on routes Trieste- Venice -Florence- Rome, Rome-Naples -Palermo - Trapani - Pantelleria, Palermo -Catania - Naples -Reggio Calabria - Rome and Rome - Grosseto- Milan. Characteristic of ATI were in the years that followed, inter alia, the east- west connections in southern Italy. By 1970, the subsidiary company Elivie ( " Società Italiana SpA Esercizio Elicotteri " ) offered in the Gulf of Naples helicopter flights Augusta Bell 47J to Capri and Ischia. Air services and the company but were abandoned after a short time. For some time ATI operated on behalf of the Kingdom of Libya Airlines also domestic routes in Libya.

1973 decreed ATI over 13 Douglas DC-9 -32 and carried more than three million passengers. Especially in southern Italy, the company sold very well with the slogan " Aerobus " (Eng. " Air Bus ").

Development since the 1980s

In the 80s, ATI replaced its 27 DC-9 gradually by 38 McDonnell Douglas MD -82, the Fokker fleet was replaced by 10 regional aircraft ATR 42.

Early 90s offered ATI from Naples scheduled flights to London, Paris and Frankfurt. In 1994 Alitalia economic reasons its subsidiary ATI completely. Although officially part of the Alitalia fleet, flew several MD -82 in the years after that in ATI livery. This was identical with the exception of the lettering and the blue color with the Alitalia design. The former charter airline Aermediterranea, also a subsidiary of Alitalia, had a similar design, only in blue, orange and red.

In many ways similar to ATI because of their route network and because of the reduced to the bare minimum of services and accordingly moderate prices today a low cost airline.
