Æscwine of Wessex

Aescwine (also: Aescwine; Escuuine ) ( † 676 ) was 674-676, King of Gewissæ, an ethnic group as the " West Saxons " the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex was formed in the late 7th century.

Life

Aescwine comes from the House of Wessex, and was a son of Cenfus. After King 's death in 672 Cenwalhs began a politically unstable time. Æscwines father Cenfus appears as a king next to Seaxburg and others have established. With the year 674 Cenfus and Seaxburg disappeared from the sources. Successor was Cenfus ' son Aescwine, who had probably share the rule with sub- kings. In the year 675 there was (not identified) against King Wulfhere of Mercia whose output has not been handed down to the battle of Bedanheafde. Wulfhere, however, died soon after. Aescwine could not exploit the victory. He died after a two -year reign in 676 and was succeeded by Centwine.
