AFC U-16 Championship

The U-16 Asian Cup ( U -17 until 2006 ) is a football competition between the best Asian teams for male soccer players under 16. The competition is also the Asian qualifying for the U-17 World Cup.

Is organized the championship of the Asian Football Confederation ( AFC). For the first time the tournament was played in 1985. Since 1986, the tournament takes place every two years.

(ASEAN, East Asia and West Asia, and South and Central Asia ) Currently qualify in divided along regional lines groups of 16 teams for the finals, which are first divided into four groups. The determined in a simple league system group winners and runners- up qualify for the quarter-finals, from which it is played in a knockout round on. The third place is no longer played since 2008.

The last tournament was held in 2012 in Iran.
