Agartala ( Bengali: আগরতলা, Agartala ) is the capital of the Indian state of Tripura. It is located two kilometers from the border with Bangladesh and has about 400,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ).

Agartala is the commercial center of the otherwise predominantly agricultural area. The city has several temples and palaces. It has been inhabited for the most part of Bengal, which gives it the stamp of Bengali culture, especially through festivals such as Durga Puja. Increasingly, however, it also attracts people of the tribes from the countryside to the city.

Agartala is the seat of the Diocese of Agartala.
