Agenzia Informazioni e Sicurezza Esterna

The Agenzia Informazioni e Sicurezza Esterna ( AISE ) is since 2007 the foreign intelligence service in Italy. By a law on the reform of the Italian intelligence services of 3 August 2007, the new agency took over almost all the tasks of the dissolved military service SISMI.

Order and organization

AISE is subject to such domestic service Agenzia Informazioni e Sicurezza Interna Italian Prime Minister or a Minister authorized by him without portfolio or Secretary of State. To coordinate the intelligence services is the Office of the Prime Minister, the department Dipartimento delle Informazioni per la Sicurezza (DIS ).

In contrast to his predecessor service SISMI, which was also responsible for counter-espionage in Germany and was involved under this pretext in unlawful operations in Italy, the AISE is solely responsible for the abroad. Will they operate within the country, they can only do so in cooperation with the domestic service and under the control of the DIS.

AISE under the Prime Minister, but also reports to the ministries of interior, exterior and defense. The Prime Minister determines the exact split between the foreign service AISE and the military professional news service of the General Staff of the Centro Intelligence Interforze. The ministries listed are directly supplied with relevant information, all others must address their requests to the DIS.

Chaired by the Prime Minister of the Cabinet Committee Comitato per la Sicurezza Interministeriale sets della Repubblica ( CISR ) states, inter alia, the general mission profiles for the services.

The headquarters of the AISE is located in the northwest of the city center located Forte Braschi (pronounced Braski ).
