Comb wheatgrass ( Agropyron cristatum )

The comb wheatgrass ( Agropyron cristatum ) is a plant of the genus comb couch grass ( Agropyron ) in the family of grasses ( Poaceae ).

Distribution and location

The Kammqecke is found throughout Europe, but here preferably in the western and eastern Mediterranean and to central Europe reaching. It also grows in temperate Asia. After North America it was introduced. It prefers to grow on dry mountain slopes, in dry meadows and steppes.

System

Since the kind previously been assigned to other genera, there are the synonyms Bromus cristatus L. and Triticum cristatum (L.) Schreb ..

Description

The comb couch grass is a perennial herbaceous plant. The culms reach stature heights of 20 to 60, sometimes to 80 inches Height. They are hairy bald or sparse. The leaf sheaths are hairless. Leaf blades are rolled or flat. They are from 5 to 15, and sometimes up to 20 inches long and 0.2 to 0.9 centimeters wide. You are oberseits bald at the top, close to the axis, however, slightly hairy fluffy.

The elongated oval ear is very dense, 2 to 6 inches long and 0.8 to 2.5 inches wide. The ears are very short branches with 1 millimeter in length. The widely splayed from the main axis in high-angle spikelets are arranged in a comb shape in two parts. The 6 to 18 millimeters wide ear axis bears 3-11 flowers. The glumes are lanceolate or oblong -elliptic, hairy or hairless, hairy rarely prickly. You have awns. The awn is about as long as the glume. The glumes are einnervig. They upper is about 2 to 3 millimeters, and the lower from about 3 to 4 mm long. The lemmas are hairy or glabrous, rarely prickly hairy. You are ciliated at the tip of bicuspid and on the keels. The awn of the lemma reached 2-4 mm in length. The anthers ( anthers ) are about 4 millimeters long.

The flowering and fruiting season is between June and September. The chromosome number is 2n = 28
