Aguas Corrientes is a city in Uruguay.

Geography

It is located in the west of the department of Canelones in its sector 3 you lies on the left-hand bank of the Río Santa Lucía, which forms the border with the Nachbardepartamento San Jose there. Aguas Corrientes adjacent to the approximately one kilometer north of Santa Lucía located. The Departamento Capital Canelones is located about seven kilometers east of the city.

History

The name of the town was granted due to the fact that from here takes place the water supply of Montevideo. The drinking water treatment began in 1870 with the construction of the plant, which became operational on July 18, 1871. The workers involved in the project were also the same ones who first settled with their families on site. The opening of the first public school Aguas Corrientes ' dates from 1882. 1923 was the classification of the settlement in the " Pueblo " category.

Population

The inhabitants of Aguas Corrientes was at the last census in 2011, 1047. Of 511 residents were male and 536 female. For 2010, the Intendency de Canelones had indicated a population of 2,180.
