Template: Infobox city in Portugal / Maintenance / Web page is blank Aguiar de Sousa is a municipality in the district of the district Paredes Porto in Portugal. The town has 1655 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011).

Geography

The municipality is located in the rocky, verdant landscape, which is characterized by the valleys of the rivers Douro and Sousa.

History

The town played a role in the Reconquista, of which to be visited remnants of the castle tower ( Torre dos Castelo de Aguiar de Sousa ) attest. Almansor handle 995 to the fortress, which was expanded in future to an important point of the lines of defense against the Moors. The remains of the castle are now a listed part of the route along the Roman excavations in Portugal, the Rota do Românico.

The since the independence of the Kingdom of Portugal in 1139 independent community was a separate circuit ( concelho ) to the administrative reform in 1855, and since then is the circle of Paredes.

Name

Already known at the time of the Roman siege, her name goes on aquilare or aquilaris back, due to the time here numerous occurring eagle (lat. Aquila ). The nearby river Rio Sousa was the second name Pate.

Traffic

The municipality is situated on the A41 motorway with a private line.

The nearest railway terminal is the train station in Paredes, on the Linha do Douro.
