Ahaziah of Judah

Ahaziah (Hebrew אחזיה, also called Jehoahaz ) was king of Judah; its only a few -month reign is dated to the year 842 or 841 BC.

Ahaziah was the youngest son of Jehoram and Athaliah, the granddaughter of Omri ( Ahab's daughter ); Heir to the throne he was just 22 years old, because his brothers were killed in an incident of Arabs killed. The biblical tradition ( 2 Chronicles 22) provides a negative image of him, as he was followed the ways of his parents, who had promoted the cult of Baal. Together with his uncle Jehoram of Israel, son of Ahab, he made an unsuccessful campaign against King Hazael of Aram. When Rama Joram was wounded, so he had to return to Jezreel, where he wanted to recover. When Ahaziah then visited Joram, he was killed by Jehu, whose purpose was to wipe out the whole house of Omrides, the Ahaziah belonged to his mother. Successor of Ahaziah was his mother Athaliah, Joash stood against, however.

1993/1994 was found at Tel Dan stele, the author indicates that he had Ahaziah and Jehoram killed ( the king of Israel). The connection after it has to act at this author to Hazael of Aram. However, it is not clear whether this statement corresponds to the facts and Hazael has really killed both kings, or whether it merely represents an elevation of his victory and Ahaziah, as in the Old Testament report was later killed by Jehu.
