Ahmed Abdallah Mohamed Sambi

Ahmed Abdallah Mohamed Sambi ( born June 5, 1958 in Mutsamudu on the Comorian island of Anjouan ) was from May 2006 to 2011 President of the Comoros. In the presidential election of 2006 he was the winner, replacing the incumbent since 1999 Azali Assoumani. In 2009, he tried by a constitutional referendum successfully for a radical reform of the political system of the Comoros to reach for a stronger central government. However, the envisaged in the new Constitution possibility of further presidency was explained to him by the Constitutional Court of the Comoros invalid, so that he could no longer compete for the 2010 presidential election.
