Ahmet Çakar

Ahmet Çakar ( born May 4, 1962 in Çankırı, Turkey ) is a former Turkish football referee and is considered one of his country's most successful referee. His main job is a medical doctor.

Career

Ahmet Çakar graduated from the oldest Turkish university İstanbul Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi. After his studies, he practiced as a doctor and worked part-time as a football referee. He led over 100 international matches and derbies and was the first Turkish referee of the games in the UEFA Champions League headed. After his career as a football referee, he worked as a commentator in various Turkish sports programs. Currently, he comments on the events in the Turkish football along with Sinan Engin, Rasim Ozan Küthayalı, Ümit Özat and Ertem Sener, in a show called Beyaz Futbol. In addition, he has worked as a sports editor for the Turkish daily Sabah.

Çakar is married and has two children.

Others

On 25 February 2004 Çakar was shot by a previously unknown person five times. The motive is unknown to date; the police believe that his comments about events in the Turkish football were the motive for the perpetrator.
