Aidan Baker

Aidan Baker ( born 1974 in Toronto ) is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist, experimental musician and author.

Career and style

After studying literature and religious studies at McGill University in Montreal and the subsequent visit to the Humber College School for Writers in Toronto, published Aidan Baker both prose and poetry and illustrations for various publishers. Also in this season comes the beginning of his musical creation - first as a solo artist - which ought to be distinguished above all by a very flexible and adventurous style from then on the classification of blocks into clearly defined musical genres. Instead oscillates Aidan Baker (especially solo ) factory seemingly flowing between genres such as Space Rock, Post Rock, Shoegaze, Ambient, Drone Doom and Noise ( partially but even folk and jazz), which is usually all of the above styles mix such that a droning, slowly progressing " " wall " " ( Soundscape ) results - a result which has sometimes been described as "Ambient Metal", " Shoegazer Metal", "Ambient Doom", or " Dreamsludge ".

So variable in the result, so different are the influences on Aidan Baker's music, which include Sonic Youth, Swans, Sunn O))), Godflesh, PJ Harvey, Red House Painters, Caspar Brötzmann and James Plotkin, as well as also from Canada dating industrial band Skinny Puppy count.

Originally with the ulterior motive to allow using bass boost next recording in the studio live performances, Aidan Baker's girlfriend Leah Buckareff joined in 2005, the two years before he founded project Nadja. Nadja ( " Aidan " read backwards, but at the same allusion to André Breton's novel Nadja and a film of the same with Elina Löwensohn ) began as a side project with increased focus on harder, or metal- lastigere spheres. Baker, however, in a number of other projects (ARC & Mnemosyne ) and ( both studio, and tour ) active collaborations, among others, Eric Quach (this quiet army ) and the German Drone band Troum.
