Aigueperse, Puy-de-Dôme
Aigueperse is a commune with 2595 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Puy -de- Dôme in the Auvergne region. It is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton in the Arrondissement Aigueperse Riom. It is located along the National Road 9 between Clermont -Ferrand and Moulins, 17 km north-east of Riom.
The place name derives from the 11th century from Latin "Aqua sparsa " - " scattered source " from. Other forms were " Aigua Eparsa ", " Esguipersa " 1307 | " Aiguesperce " (18th century) and " Guiparse " in Patois. The / the inhabitants are called in French " le / les Aiguepersois ", the inhabitant ( NEN ) " la (les) Aiguepersoise ( s)".
Aigueperse was the capital of the county (since 1538 Duchy ) Montpensier.
