Aileron roll

A controlled roller (English Slow Roll ) is an aerobatic maneuver in the Aresti catalog, in which the aircraft is rolled once around its longitudinal axis, while retaining the direction of flight. The controlled role is often simply called role. Although it belongs to the basic training in aerobatics, it is not an easy maneuver.

It must be borne in mind that the wing compared to the aircraft longitudinal axis has the setting angle. In the inverted position must then, simply put, the longitudinal axis by twice setting angle are pushed upwards, so that the angle of attack, the air flow over the wing chord is so that the aircraft continues to fly in the desired direction. In our page air must bring the buoyancy of the fuselage and are accordingly employed.

In order to fly a controlled roller clean, it is not enough simply to put only the aileron in the desired direction and to wait until the aircraft has rotated. Especially with less powerful airplanes and gliders nose before rolling has to be raised and constantly attitude and direction are corrected with well-measured heights and rudder deflections during taxiing. That's why sometimes encountered English term Aileron roll (aileron roll ) is incorrect.

The driven roller can be flown not only horizontal but also in vertical and 45 ° lines. Also, many of the more complicated figures included roles. A well-known example is the Cuban Eight.

It can also be flown only part of a role, such as a half roll to inverted flight.

If the role is divided into several sections, in which the roles is briefly interrupted, then one speaks of a time role. The designation remote role is common among aerobatic pilots. A full roll that is flown four quarters rolls then is, four times roll.

The controlled role is so called because in this figure, the aircraft is "normal" controlled any time with attached flow, unlike the torn part in the one-sided by a specifically induced stall an autorotation is initiated.

The normal, easy roll ( about 10 ° ) in order to increase the angle of attack, initiated by gently pulling up and down the aileron in the desired direction. Now the plane wobbles in the supine position. By the previous pull up right now so to some extent the angle of attack for a straight flight. Next wobbles the airplane in the normal position and occupies approximately the normal angle of attack.
