Ain't She Sweet

Is not She Sweet is a pop and jazz standard from the year 1927. It was written by Milton Ager (music) and Jack Yellen ( lyrics ) during the Tin Pan Alley - phase and known in Germany in the version of the Beatles.

Genesis

Milton Ager (1893-1979) was a professional music composer, his first works for copyright protection filed ( Rockaway Hunt) in 1915. After his military service, he got a job in 1918 at a music publisher Leo Feist. In August 1922, Ager began a partnership with composer Jack Yellen ( 1892-1991 ), which they ended 1930. In 1927 she delivered from five successful compositions; the most successful of these was not She Sweet as Charleston. Ager was inspired when simple text by his daughter Shana Alexander. The copyright lay with the music publisher Edwin H. Morris & Co. Inc. ( Warner Brothers).

Original recording

The original is often attributed in the literature Ben Bernie; based on the recording data, however, turns out to Lou Gold & His Melody Men as the original artist of the song. Cover versions

Ben Bernie & His Hotel Roosevelt Orchestra had great success with the song. The Beatles version

In the U.S. Atco Records brought the Beatles version on 6 July 1964 the market which penetrated up to rank 19 on the Billboard charts. Both versions have been associated with the attempt to market to participate as a free rider on the long running success of the Beatles record, but this failed.
