Airman Basic

Airman Basic (AB) is the lowest rank (OR -1) of the U.S. Air Force. The rank is followed by that of the Airman. Soldiers in the rank of Airman Basic are usually still in basic training. The promotion to Airman usually occurs after six months of service. Similar to the "simple soldiers " of the Bundeswehr wearing the Airman Basic no rank insignia, earning him the nickname "Slick sleeve" (paraphrased: SlickSleeve ) is introduced.
