Akhmeteli–Varketili Line

The Achmetelis - Theatres - Warketeli - line (Georgian: ახმეტელი თეატრი - ვარკეთილის ხაზი ), formerly Gldani - Warketeli line, Didube - Samgore line and Didube - Rustaveli line, even short - Achmetelis Warketeli - line is the first line of Metro Tbilisi. It was opened in January 1966.

History

After it back in 1940 Considerations for a subway were, as the tram system and the trolleybus network were completely overloaded. In the 1950s, has started the construction work until the line was opened in January 1966. It included the stations Didube, electric depot (now Goziridse ) Oktomberi (now Nadzaladevi ) Wagsolski Ploscheds (now Sadguris Moedani ) Marjanishvili and Rustaveli. They bore the name Didube - Rustaveli line. On November 6, 1967, a extension to 300 Aragweli was completed. After further openings on 10 May 1971, in November 1985 and January 7, 1989, the line had grown to 19.6 km. Since 1992, 5 of the 14 stations have been renamed. Extensions to the north and south are planned, but can not be realized because of the financial situation of Georgia.
