Akiko Morigami

Akiko Morigami (Japanese森 上 亜 希 子, Morigami Akiko, born January 12, 1980 in Ikuno -ku, Osaka ) is a former Japanese tennis player.

Career

Akiko Morigami won her only singles title on the WTA tour against Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli in 2007 in Prague by 6-1, 6-3. They also twice reached the final in Cincinnati, where she lost to Patty Schnyder and 2007 against Anna Chakvetadze 2005. Three times she moved into the third round of a Grand Slam tournament, Wimbledon in 2003 and 2007 and in 2005 at the French Open in Paris.

In addition, they celebrated in 2003 in Memphis one doubles title on the side of her compatriot Saori Obata.

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, she played both singles and doubles. They reached the second round in both competitions.
