Akira Jimbo

Akira Jimbo, also known as Akira Jinbo (Jap.神 保 彰, Akira Jimbo, born February 27, 1959 in Tokyo) is a Japanese jazz fusion drummer who is famous for his combination of drum pads and acoustic drums. In addition to his solo work, he is also the drummer of the Japanese jazz fusion band Casiopea and has participated in various projects with other musicians, including Keiko Matsui, Shambara and bassist Brian Bromberg.

Biography

Akira Jimbo began at age 17 to play drums and joined shortly thereafter the Light Music Society Big Band of the Keio University in. He became famous with the band Casiopea in which was a member from 1979 to 1989. In 1997 he returned to the band and takes the time again with Casiopea.

During his solo career he formed the duo in 1989 Jimsaku along with bassist Tetsuo Sakurai Casiopeas. Currently, he together with Hiroyuki Noritake ( drummer of T- Square) the drums duo Synchronized DNA and has given several concerts with Casiopea.

Akira Jimbo has a unique style, which he demonstrated in his drum videos. He is able to move through years of practice all four limbs independently of one another and thus can even play complicated rhythms properly. Even he calls this feature Four Way Independence.

He uses the DTX (drum triggering system) and is thereby able to play with a full band sound without playback.

He was chosen by the British magazine drums Rhythm 's second - most famous drummer in 1999. In June 2000, he became the first Asian drummer a cover story in the magazine Modern Drummer. He also appeared on the 2000 Modern Drummer Festival. In 2000 he founded together with DJ Kay Nakayama the music project " Intelligent Jazz". There real jazz sounds were mixed with electronic sounds. They appeared with trumpeters Terumasa Hino and Toshinori Kondo and guitarist Kazumi Watanabe. In 2008, he toured in three months through 80 cities in Japan as a one-man orchestra.

He has worked on the development of the new K Custom Hybrid cymbal series from Zildjian.
