Akufen

Akufen is the stage name of Canadian techno producers and DJ Marc Leclair, which is an important representative of the cut-up techno. The name is derived from Akufen acouphene, the French word for tinnitus. In addition, Leclair has published under the pseudonyms Nefuka, Horror Inc., Anna Buy and David Scott.

Music

In his youth, Akufen guitarist and pianist was in a fusion trio. At the age of 16, he sold the guitar to be able to afford a sequencer and a synthesizer can. His living he earned as a butcher and cartoonist. Later he gave up a career as a painter and illustrator to devote himself entirely to music. Influenced he is both new music composers such as Philip Glass and Steve Reich as well as representatives of early electronic dance music such as Kraftwerk, as well as by jazz. Akufen has released under various labels such as Perlon significant scene, Force Inc. Music Works and Hautec and considers the scattering on several labels as an integral part of his music.

The basis for Akufens music samples it receives mostly from the radio. These are fragments from existing pieces as well as to jingles, fragments of speech and noise. The samples are mixed to sound collages, often a Roland TR -808 or 909 used for the rhythm. Partially change the sound shreds so quickly that they are no longer identifiable. This production method he describes himself as a micro sampling. His most well- known album is My Way, which he recorded in a remote cabin in the woods in Quebec and throughout garnered positive reviews.

Akufen sees himself as a representative of experimental music and refuses to be directed exclusively to club goers. Are entitled to a little consumability he does not rise. As an important non-musical influence on the mood of his music he calls Surrealism and Dadaism and horror films that he worked directly musically among other things in his project Horrorama. A large audience he reached for the first time at the turn of the millennium. During this time, the Canadian house and techno scene was the same time as him popular, especially his hometown of Montreal. Akufen was considered one of its most important representatives. His work has been referred to as a hard techno categorized and style icon for the minimum and more often compared to that of Matthew Herbert. His music is partly associated with the directional Clicks & Cuts.
