Al Kavelin

Al Kavelin ( born March 3 1903 in New York City; † January 1982) was an Italian -derived, American big band leader and composer in the field of swing and popular music.

Al Kavelin was one of the leading bandleaders of the sweet style of the 1930s. He graduated at the Royal Verdi Conservatory in Milan. After he had worked among others with Jean gold chain he founded in 1933 his first band to perform at New York's Central Park Casino and its performances have been broadcast on the radio. Later recordings for Columbia Records, Bluebird and Decca emerged. The best-known member of his orchestra was the later band leader Carmen Cavallaro; his band singers were Vivian Blaine, Bill Darnell, Don Cornell and Virginia Gilerest. Al Kavelin guested with his orchestras in the big ballrooms of the United States, including in New York's Waldorf - Astoria, in Bilmore and Essex House, in the Blackstone in Chicago, at the Mark Hopkins in San Francisco, the Baker in Dallas and the Roovevelt in New Orleans. Kavelin composed, inter alia, the theme songs of the band, "Lover Has Gone " and later " I Give You My Word ", the early 40s was popular during the record strikes through the radio and # 1 sponsored by Lucky Strike Your Hit Parade was on the radio. Finally Kavelin broke the band on the end of the 40s and settled in Los Angeles, where he founded a travel agency.
