Al-Mada'in

Mahuza ( in Hebrew and Aramaic sources, particularly the Jewish: Machuza or Machoza ) is another of the Jews of antiquity used name of the historic city of Seleucia- Ctesiphon against the Tigris (now in Iraq ) in which there was a Talmudic academy, and the at the same time was the seat of exilarch.

After Chisdas death Sura rapidly lost importance. In Pumbedita Rabbah taught bar Nachmani, Joseph and Abbaje; on them followed Raba ( 270-352 ), who moved the academy in his native town Mahuza.

In Mahuza lies the ruined palace of the Taq -e Kisra.
