Rabbah bar Nahmani

Rabba (h ) ( Rabba bar Nachmani ) was an important amora of the third generation in Babylonia.

He was the uncle of Abaye, from a family that led back to the priest Eli, a pupil of Rab Huna in Sura and of Rab Judah in Pumbedita, successor of Rab Huna bar Hiyya as the most important teacher, according to the tradition for 22 years head of of the schoolhouse to Pumbedita after Jude's death. He was probably never in Palestine; called because of its sharp dialectic as mountain - Entwurzeler ( oqer harim, Berachot 64a ).

Rabbah was known for its high number of listeners that in the Kalla - month ( Elul, Adar ) reached 12 000 ( Baba Mezia 86a).

He lived in poverty and died in 330 at the age of 40 years.
