Al-Mustansiriya University

The Mustansiriyya University (Arabic الجامعة المستنصرية, DMG al - ʿ a al - Mustansiriya Ǧāmi ) is an Abbasid caliph al - Mustansir to the (r. 1226-1242 ) declining university in Baghdad.

The University was founded in 1233 as an institution of higher education, and thus is regarded as one of the oldest universities in the world. To this day she is one of the most important educational institutions in Iraq, and since 1962 part of the 6 universities of Baghdad. Are taught primarily law and literature.

The Mustansiriyya University is located in the old part of the city along the Tigris behind the building of the Defense Ministry. The location is classified as hazardous.

On January 16, 2007, at least 65 people were killed in an attack against the Mustansiriyya University, 140 were injured.
