Alaca

Alaca is a town and a district in the Turkish province of Çorum. The town lies about 75 kilometers south of the provincial capital of Çorum on the road D-190 of Sungurlu to Tokat.

The district is located in the south of the province. It is bordered on the south by the province of Yozgat to the west by Boğazkale and Sungurlu in the north to the central district and on the east by Ortaköy. To the northwest lies the mountain range Elmalı Dagi, in the south the plateau Bozok Platosu.

The former name was ALACAS Hüseyinabad. The name change to the present name was made in 1932.

Attractions

About 15 kilometers north-west of the city lies the archaeological site Alacahöyük the same village. It is possibly on the site of the Hittite Zippalanda.
